Sex Therapy

Does sex therapy sound a little awkward?

While this is certainly understandable, sometimes maintaining the sexual status quo can be even more so. Situations that challenge intimacy – such as painful sex, mismatched desire, previous trauma, medical conditions and post-affair recovery – can be successfully navigated. I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist who works with couples and individuals pursuing enhanced intimacy in their relationships.

Sex therapy often involves collaborative investigation to discover the factors that contributed to starting and sustaining problems. We will work together to better understand phenomenon such as:

  • Low desire

  • Issues related to gender or sexual minority status

  • Sexual dysfunction in the context of medical or mental health challenges

  • Painful intercourse

  • History of sexual trauma

  • Sexuality during pregnancy and post-partum

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Adjustment to a sexually transmitted infection

  • Couple concerns such as mismatched desire, post-affair recovery of sexual connection or any of the above concerns

Sexual phenomena are best understood as having a complex root system. Therefore, our exploration will continue even as you begin to apply early insights. While this can seem complicated at first, the process of discovery (or untangling roots) often becomes exciting and empowering. Relaying information, mindfulness, couples work and/or cognitive behavioral strategies are also commonly utilized in sessions. Additionally, we may discuss at-home recommendations, and possible consultation with your physician and/or physical therapist.

Sex therapy never involves engaging in sexual behavior during sessions, although sexual content is usually discussed.  Feedback regarding your own comfort level in addressing such a personal topic is welcomed and encouraged. This can be a productive part of defining and enhancing your sexuality. We will work together to create a safe context for meeting your goals.

I love and am loved, fully and freely, nothing expected, more than enough received.
