About Dr. Riley
Education and training
A proud native of Bryan/college Station, I returned to the area with my family in 2007. I graduated from Southwestern University with a double major in biology and psychology in 1997. My path to private practice began when I identified the field of health psychology, which fuses both of my academic passions. I knew this niche would help me serve clients in practical ways.
After working briefly as a lab technician at Baylor College of Medicine, I decided to tackle graduate school. I entered the doctoral program in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine at the University of North Texas. This unique program, which fuses medical and psychological knowledge, still informs my treatment approach. As part of my studies, I completed an internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit (2004-2005), which included rotations in consultation-liaison psychology in a medical inpatient setting, pre-transplant and bariatric surgery evaluations, and general outpatient therapy. I completed my doctoral degree in 2005.
PROFESSIONAL experience
After graduation, I received a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. This fellowship enhanced my ability to treat clients in medical settings as part of a collaborative team. After earning licensure in 2006, I practiced eight years in an OB/GYN setting, focusing on women’s mental health and the integration of psychology within a private practice.
In 2015, I transitioned to independent practice. This allowed me to expand into areas of specialty that both meet community needs, and match my own interests. As a bonus, my office mates are outstanding mental health providers. I certainly benefit from the exciting synergy of growth, support and feedback that co-locating offers. I also enjoy serving on the board of the Brazos Valley Psychological Association, a group of local psychologists who foster community collaboration, maintain connections between psychologists and state legislators, and provide continuing education to area mental health providers.
